Senior Specialist Kristian Sylvester-Hvid from the Danish Technological Institute will be presenting how fuel cells can extend flight times of drones at NUE16
Sylvester-Hvid's presentation will review the different types of propulsion system currently in use for drones, and how the choice of the underlying energy system limits the operational scope and flight time.

Focus of your presentation?
The presentation will review the different types of propulsion system currently in use for drones, and how the choice of the underlying energy system limits the operational scope and flight time. Then focus will be on drones with electrical propulsion systems and advantages and disadvantages of using electric propulsion. The different options for powering such electric propulsion system in drones will be discussed with a particular emphasis on using fuel cell systems.
What will the audience take home?
1/ They should have a overview of which propulsion syustems are in use for small, preferably civil drones.
2/ They should understand the pro and cons of using electric propulsion in drones
3/ They should get an idea of how the energy density of different fuels influence the obtainable flight time
Kristian Sylvester-Hvid has been working since 2011 with various energy systems for portable consumer products and robotics platforms, with a particular emphasis on energy harvesting and fuel cells.
